Koffi Annan cautions Nigerians against post election violence

TVC NEWS [ABUJA] - The Chairman of the Commission on Elections, Democracy and Security, Koffi Annan has cautioned Nigerians against post-election violence as the country holds its general election in February.
The former United Nations Scribe also condemns the activities of insurgents as he insists Boko Haram’s actions have no place in a civilized world.
Annan said these at a stakeholders’ forum on the successful conduct of the forthcoming elections in Nigeria.
TVC News Joke Adisa reports that it is four weeks to the general elections in Nigeria and concerned groups and individuals are not leaving anything to chance to ensure, fair and credible election.
One of such groups is the Situation Room, a coalition of Civil Society organisations, Joke reported.
The purpose of the gathering therefore is to identify the role of civil society groups in electoral integrity.
The Keynote Speaker believes Nigeria owes the rest of the world the responsibility of conducting a free and fair poll as a result of its leading role in the comity of nations.
And though he acknowledges no election can be perfect, Annan cautions against inciting comments in ongoing campaigns by the contending political parties that could lead to post election crisis
On his part, the Archbishop of Abuja Diocese underscores the importance of a generally acceptable poll laced with integrity
Whichever way the forthcoming elections go, this gathering of diplomats, rights and human activists and labour unions agrees that the nation will remain an indivisible entity.
